VARANASI, A CITY ABOUT LIFE

Varanasi is a photogenic city full of color, spirituality, winding streets and light. It’s chaotic but at the same time its chaos makes the place more authentic and beautiful.

Hello everyone! Since a long time ago I want to show you those fantastic pictures from my trip to India and our stay in Varanasi. I am still impressed with this city! When everybody ask me about Varanasi I always answer that it is impossible to describe with words, you have to go and live it. Varanasi is unique, there are tons of things that stimulate you in every moment and create a lot of emotions and feelings which you need to accept and reflect afterwards.

Varanasi is a holy city located next to the Ganges river. On the banks of the River Ganges you can see how the rituals of life and death are carried out on the steps of the main ghats ( a “ghat” are the steps leading to the banks of River Ganges). Most are used for bathing but there are also several ‘burning ghats’ where bodies are cremated in public. Varanasi is a photogenic city full of color, spirituality, winding streets and light. It’s a chaotic city but at the same time its chaos makes the place more authentic and beautiful.

We stayed in a Guest House called Singh Guest House at Shivala ghat with a great atmosphere and a beautiful garden. The place was perfect to disconnect from the chaos and find some silence and relax ourselves. Varanasi and the life around the Ganges changes with the hours of the day so for a full experience you should explore the city at foot or by boat on the river at sunrise, during the day and sunset. For a refreshing break don’t miss the the Blue Lassi shop which is popular for its sweetened yogurt drink.

I hope that these pictures will give you an idea of what Varanasi is, even if it’s very difficult to explain to anyone who has not been there. We were so lucky to enjoy those days in Varanasi with our soul mates Rita and Alex, the city and the experience was even more wonderful with them.

Great article, wonderful country. I recently did a Yoga Teacher Training Course in Central India, not far from Varanasi. Had an amazing experience! http://www.arhantayogaindia.com/.
